Reselling Popular Children's Toy Collectibles...

Anyone familiar with Beyblades? Or is it Bey Blades?  Anyway, someone donated a large lot of them to my son's school for their Rummage Sale.  Someone commented that they were very popular and collectible so I said I would research and put them up for auction if that was the case.  Well, they are... popular... and potentially valuable.  A much smaller set went for over $270.00 recently.  I have the set from the school on auction and it has had over 200 hits and 13 watchers presently.  It is little over an hour from ending and has no bids.  So, either we have some very savvy bidders waiting till the last minute or people are just watching to see for how much they sell.  I choose to believe it is the former.  Will keep you posted.  Here is the Ebay post link... http://www.ebay.com/itm/280828639495?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649  Of course, all profit from this sale will go directly to Morning Star School, Orlando, FL.  You can find them here... http://www.morningstarangels.net/ .

UPDATE:  Sold for $49.99 plus s/h, which is not shabby.  Much better than they would have received at a rummage sale, but I believe there are pieces that go for a lot more.

Vintage Cookie Jars...Collecting and Resaling

Found this sweet vintage cookie jar at a thrift store last week.  Think it may be from the 50's but not sure of date or maker.  Anyone familiar with this piece?
Unfortunately, the lid has been broken and repaired, but I still like it.  Glad previous owners repaired it and did not just throw it away.
It was made in the USA and has the number 740 engraved on the bottom.

I will probably keep this piece since it is damaged.  However, vintage cookie jars sell well via Ebay.  Try a search on Ebay for Vintage Cookie Jar and choose the completed listings - next choose Price & Shipping: Highest to Lowest and see what I mean.  May you find some big sellers our there... or some you would love to keep for yourself! :)

Homemade Face Lotion...

Found this site today... http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-homemade-face-cream

Think I might try out this recipe... been trying to find a more frugal way for skin care.

(Sorry, for some reason the link was not working, but is fixed now.  Enjoy!)

UPDATE: Made this using shea butter in place of carnuba wax and my own aloe vera gel - expressed from a leaf.  Also, used the Rose Otto oil (it is less expensive).  Have to say my face felt more hydrated than it has in a long time.  Will report back after I have used it for a bit.

Vintage Sewing Notions and Patterns...

Sewing is not a great love of mine, but for some strange reason I am drawn to vintage sewing supplies at estate and yard sales.  Found this unique wood sewing box at the estate sale of a German lady and loved it enough to pay the asking price - not waiting till 1/2 off day because it would probably be gone.

Found this sweet wood thread rack full of wooden spools at a yard sale.

Believe it or not the below are considered vintage as well - they are from the 70's and are Ethnic Folkwear patterns.  These are three of five I  picked up at a thrift store in Jax, FL.  They were $1.00 each.  The envelopes have some wear, but the patterns are uncut and factory folded.  They are listed on Ebay now from $9.99 to $12.99 each.  I was not tempted to keep them as I do not plan on tackling such sewing projects. :)

Fire King and More...

Frequently I come across vintage Fire King dishware when out thrift shopping and yard saling. Only buy a few items and usually keep them.  These are a some pieces of their Sapphire Blue line I have collected.

Also have a few pieces of their Peach Luster.  A friend gave me the round baking dish.  The other pieces I picked up at yard sales very inexpensively.

At a thrift shop recently I picked up this vintage USA pottery bowl.  It is a vintage Hull pottery sunglow pattern ovenproof mixing bowl. It has a few cracks and bumps, but sweet and I think I will keep it.

Do you have vintage dishware favorites?

Vintage Crystal and Glass...

Crystal Candlesticks & Stopper - Vintage and more
One of my weaknesses when out thrifting is for vintage (or not) crystal  or glass candlesticks.  If they are crystal and a unique design and a great deal I usually buy them whether they are vintage or not.  With the glass ones I am usually only drawn to the vintage candlesticks.  Like vintage linens, they all seem to collect somewhere in my home.  I have a hard time parting with them.  If they commanded a great price I might be convinced to part with them, but on the whole they do not.

More Vintage Crystal Candlesticks, Door Knob & Chandelier Prism

So, here they gather on my little hutch, which is almost full.  Guess I will have to part with a few if I find more I like.

What is your vintage weakness... or any other for that matter... that you find yourself collecting?

Vintage Handkerchiefs, Doilies and Linens...

When I hit yard and estate sales and visit thrift stores I am always on the look out for vintage linens... most of which I keep.  Occasionally, I will resell items when I find a lot of them.  Here are a few I have found and kept.  Still not sure what I will use them for, but hanging on to them for a season to see if inspiration will strike.  Many years ago I made a handkerchief quilt top (which my mother had hand-quilted for me). It is pictured at the bottom of this post.

I may use some of these hankies as pockets on the aprons I make from other vintage linens.  Any other ideas of uses for vintage linens?
