Thrifting for Resale - Reselling

Went thrifting with two of my buds on Friday.  October and November are great yard sale months, at least here in Florida.  There are many community sales during this time.  Even though it was raining we headed out to find our treasures.  As we were driving to some advertised sales we saw an Estate Sale sign in front of a retirement home and had to stop.  It was being held by friends (not the professionals... Yay!) of an elderly lady who was moving.

I found this 100% Wool Icelandic Throw by Alafoss.  It was in the original bag with store logo and looked like new.  It is headed for Ebay.

Also found some more vintage sewing supplies in a tin there and a container of old buttons... $2.00. I'll be keeping these. :)

Check out these sweet Hazel Atlas glasses with a pink and white kitchen motif.  Anyone familiar with the pattern name or era?  These will probably go on Ebay or Etsy...

Last great find of the day, of which I have pictures, is this vintage printer's type drawer.  I have found a smaller one, but this one is three times bigger.  Think I may keep it for a wall display.

I'll be joining Selena for Thriftshare Mondays here: http://apronthriftgirl.typepad.com/apron_thrift_girl/ .  If you check this site Monday many thrifters will be sharing their great finds.

Tablecloths Resale - Reselling...

Tablecloths are a good item for which to BOLO (be on the look out).  The French Provence brand sells pretty steadily and some bring a pretty decent price.  Earlier this year I found a sweet jacquard French Provence 72"x60" tablecloth.  It was mostly orange and yellow with a little spring green thrown in.  I found it, used, at a thrift shop for $2.50.  It had no wear or stains so I listed it, hoping to get $20 or so.  It sold for $45.01.  I no longer have a picture of this cloth, but here is one very similar currently listed on Ebay, new, for $59.95...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/64X96-ACRYLIC-COATED-DOUBLE-BORDER-FRENCH-PROVENCE-TABLECLOTH-NEW-/220878371735?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D320777278046%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D3778989954203682844

Williams Sonoma is another brand that moves well.  I picked up a used 70"x108" one at the same thrift store, probably paid $3.50 for it.  It sold for around $25.  Again, it had no stains, wear or tear.  Here is one listed on Ebay currently that is much like the one I sold.  You can find it here...http://www.ebay.com/itm/WILLIAMS-SONOMA-PROVENCE-TABLECLOTH-YELLOW-70-X-108-70-ROUND-/160663147269?pt=Table_Linens&var=&hash=item6b1c310c2d .

I love linens, but really only use cloth napkins and dish towels regularly.  Think I became used to a bare table when the children were small and have not been motivated to add tablecloths back in to everyday use. Still drawn, especially, to vintage linens.

Thrifting - Rummage Sale Finds, Resale and Reselling

Two weeks ago it poured all weekend here in Florida, but I had plans to thrift and thrift I did.  Youngest son and I had plans to meet my oldest daughter and hit yard and rummage sales together.  We started out at a church rummage sale where I found some interesting items...

It is fun to see the diversity of items at rummage sales.  Such a wide variety of fun finds.  Like this collection of antique barbed wire.  Surely someone, a rancher in Oklahoma maybe, will have to have this for their study wall.

Loved finding this Holly Hobby needlework piece.  Isn't she cute?  This may be a nostalgia buy... fond memories of Holly Hobby back in the day.  I could couple it with this pattern to post on Ebay... what do you think?

Also found some wood canisters made by Cornwall, with which I am not familiar, but liked the look.  Not sure whether to list them on Ebay or try restocking my Etsy shop.

This may be another nostalgia buy... The Rescuers Down Under Bernard and Bianca McDonald's ornaments.  My kiddos loved this movie.  These are from 1990... funny that is considered vintage now.

Picked up these The Children's Place girls boots for $3.00.  Have listed them twice on Ebay, but no purchase yet.  I really thought they would sell... one of those things you take a chance on and lose... it happens. The more you do this the better feel you get for what sells and what does not.  Clothing is one of those items that is very iffy.

More Resale - Reselling Vintage Cookie Jars Research...

Just did a completed listings search on Ebay for McCoy cookie jars.  There is a little box at top where you can choose Sort By: and I chose Price: Shipping Highest to Lowest.  This helped me find which McCoy cookie jars brought the highest selling prices.  Check out this Davy Crockett jar which sold for $470.77 with 29 bids.....

...This rare Christmas tree went for $415.00.

And this squirrel with top hat brought in $392.00...

...Pink bird on dog house.... $362.77

Dalmatians.... $300.00....

...Blue bird on dog house... $282.51

Globe... $278.89...

Anyway, you get the idea.  Some of these guys go for a pretty penny.  Of course, ones in the best condition and more rare bring the best income, so check them over well.  You, too can come upon these treasures in your junkin' adventures.

Resale - Reselling of Printer Cartridges...

Some printer cartridges can go for a pretty penny on Ebay.  If you find the smaller ink ones for 50 cents to a buck or two you can make a decent profit.  The larger toner printer cartridges sell for $100 to $200 if they are new in an unopened box.  I found four HP toner cartridges at a hole-in-the-wall thrift shop once. Purchased two (they only took cash) at $15 each and they both sold for around $200 each.  I called my friend who lived near by and she picked up the other two and sold them for similar amounts.

Be prepared for the buyers to request that you put them in another box for shipping... most of these guys are buying to resell. Do a little research on Ebay to see which ones are actually selling.  Generally, name brands bring a higher price. Also, there are some that expire, but many do not as long as they are unopened (they come in a foil pouch).  Below are a few recently completed sales from Ebay...

HP 05a black ink cartridge (printer P2035n)... sold for $64 w/4 bids

GENUINE HP CE262A Yellow Toner Cartridge LaserJet CP4025 CP4520 CP4525 Printers... sold for $179.95

HP Color LaserJet Q5953A Magenta Toner Cartridge- for HP 4700 printers... sold for $146.49 w/7 bids

GENUINE HP 78 COLOR Printer Ink Cartridge C6578D C6578... sold for $15.90

Starbucks Mugs Resale Reselling...

Certain Starbucks mugs are currently selling well on Ebay .  The City series are especially popular.  If you can pick them up for 50 cents to a buck or two you can probably get a good return on your investment.  As you can see, some will fetch you a higher price than others. Fire King Ovenware, Brown Transferware and Vintage Apron...

Resale buy
Hit a few thrift stores today.  One was actually a resale shop.  I think the guy does the same thing I do but on a grander scale and decided to rent a storefront.  That is where I found this vintage brown transfer-ware turkey platter...

It looks much like one I have that is a family heirloom.  I paid $20, which is more than I usually fork out for items, but thought it would be nice if both my daughters, eventually, had one like the heritage piece.

Heirloom Platter

...Here is the heirloom platter.  Colors are richer and more abundant and it feels more dense and has a smoother finish.  Also, the resale piece has "Made in Japan" on bottom and this piece has nothing.

$1 at thrift store
In my wanderings I found a new thrift store where I picked up this unique eight inch square Fire King Ovenware baking dish.  No chips, cracks, etc. Anyone familiar with the pattern and/or know the years it was made?  Only found one with this pattern on all of Ebay and they did not list the pattern or era.  I sure do want to keep this one.  I have another 70's Corning square I may dispose of so I can replace it with this.

$1 at thrift store
Also found this sweet apron. May have to put this one up for sale.
It is a transparent cotton-like fabric.  Is this organza?

I'll be joining Selena over here... http://apronthriftgirl.typepad.com/apron_thrift_girl/ .  Come on over and check out everyone's great and thrifty finds.

$1 at thrift store
And this vintage embroidered furniture scarf (with some holes, etc.)...

I sometimes make aprons from vintage linens, which I may do with this piece.

Vintage Cookie Jars - Resale / Reselling

Vintage Cookie jars seem to sell pretty well on Ebay.  This little 1960's Lefton cutie went for $76.99 with nine bids.

How about this rare Glen Appleman Phanta-Zoom which went for $270.55 with four bids.

And look at this sweet Little Red Riding Hood jar... sold for $76.99 with ten bids and is not even by a famous maker...

... This vintage Napco jar sold for Best Offer at $79.00.

Of course, there are the ever popular McCoy jars which usually bring a decent selling price.  This adorable little kitty jar recently went for $59.99...

Of course, it may be hard not to start your own cookie jar collection with so many great pieces out there. :)

Resale - Reselling from Junking and Thrifting - Vintage and More

Beleek Cake Plate
I began reselling to support my junking habit.  A friend and I love to hit yard and estate sales as well as thrift shops in our area.  There were so many things I wanted to buy, but I could not justify keeping them... there is only room for so much.  So began my adventure in reselling on Ebay and via rental booths.

Vintage Hudson Bay Blanket
My dear sister has much experience with booths in antique stores and suggested I only buy things I am crazy about.  Reasoning being that if you love an item surely someone else will too and if not you can keep it. :)  I liked that plan and it has seemed to work well so far with most things selling.

Portmeirion Glasses
I mostly buy vintage collectible items, because that is what I enjoy most. However, I do not pass up a New In Box, unopened printer cartridge that may sell for a couple hundred dollars.  Vintage aprons are popular and are easy and inexpensive to ship.  Breakables can be a chore.  Make sure you pad them extra well and double box.  I always insure with breakables and anything that costs more than I want to lose on a sale.
Vintage Aprons

Pictured are items I found on Ebay much like ones I have sold before either online or in a booth.  I am a firm believer that one should enjoy their work and found junking and reselling to be so for me.  If it is your love also I encourage you to try it out!

Reselling - Resale of Vintage Blankets....

Last year I found a vintage green Hudson Bay point blanket at a thrift store for $3.00.  It sold for somewhere around $90 on Ebay.  If you can find these 100% wool blankets for a reasonable amount they are good money makers - vintage or not. The points or smaller stripes at one end of each blanket indicate it's size. Below are a few recent completed listings for them from Ebay....

4 Point Hudson Bay Blanket Vintage 89” x 65”, sold for Best Offer at $100.00

Vintage & Authentic Hudson's Bay 4 Point 4 Color Stripe Wool Blanket England... sold for $113.50 at 15 bids

HUDSON BAY 6PT QUEEN SIZE WOOL BLANKET/ MEDIUM BLUE STRIPES.... sold for $238.50 w/13 bids... listed as new

Estate Sale Finds...

There was an estate sale in my neighborhood this weekend.  I am not a great fan of estate sales as their prices are higher than yard sales and most thrift stores, but there are such treasures to be had there.  I went to this one Friday when things were marked at their regular prices.  I found this vintage wood sewing box and fell in love with it.  I have never seen one just like it.  It is in very good condition and was full of sewing supplies, some of which were vintage.  I also found the little dog pin cushion and box of vintage wooden thread spools there.  I opted to pay the full price of $25 for the sewing box, as I wanted it to keep and new ones cost much more than that and are not nearly as lovely.  They charged me $3 for the small box and pin cushion and threw in the beautiful tablecloth shown as it had stains, which came out after a good soaking.

I'll be joining Selena over at http://apronthriftgirl.typepad.com/apron_thrift_girl/ for Thrift Share Monday.  Come see all the treasures found by our fellow thrifters there.
